Whistler, British Columbia – A $375,000 donation from the Whistler Health Care Foundation has helped secure two state-of-the-art surgical towers for the operating rooms at Squamish General Hospital[PA[1] .
Surgical towers house vital equipment, which include high-definition cameras, light sources, flat-screen LED monitors and a computer processor, providing crucial information and a digital picture that surgeons watch during laparoscopic procedures.
Carol Leacy, Chair of the Whistler Health Care Foundation said, “We are excited that the state-of-the-art equipment is now in operation and are thankful that we are able to support improvements to the surgical services at Squamish General Hospital. Having access to surgical procedures within our community is a huge benefit to Sea to Sky residents. We are happy to support Squamish General Hospital however we can.”
Squamish General Hospital, which is operated by Vancouver Coastal Health, provides care for communities across the Sea to Sky region. Its operating room capacity has expanded by almost 30 per cent since 2021and this new equipment will better service the needs of community members.
“At Vancouver Coastal Health, we are dedicated to providing quality care. This equipment enables our surgeons to provide leading-edge care and better surgical outcomes,” said Heidi Butler, Director, Coastal Sea to Sky at Vancouver Coastal Health. “We are grateful for the support of Whistler Health Care Foundation, Squamish Hospital Foundation, Squamish Hospital Auxiliary and the generosity of their donors in helping us advance health care delivery in the Sea to Sky region.”
The Whistler Health Care Foundation received a dedicated donation to support orthopedic services and these funds – combined with general donations, the support of the Squamish Hospital Foundation and Squamish Hospital Auxiliary – enabled this large investment in surgical equipment.
Whistler Health Care Foundation is continually fundraising to ensure funds are available to assist in the purchase and maintenance of the best medical equipment for our community.
